I was looking for an event or a course or some such to pass on to you today but was struggling. Then a weekly inspiration postcard dropped into my inbox.
It started to come as a result of another newsletter I signed up to. The man is a real estate millionaire in the US so the context is not at the moment one I’m going after. But I like it and haven’t cancelled it because it offers a quote and then some questions.
Today’s quote is from a basket ball coach who’s name means nothing to me. (Pat Riley) but the quote is useful I think.
“Excellence is the result of always striving to do better.”
It’s something I know and I do follow it despite sometimes wanting to have one of those giant leaps that makes me suddenly 5 stages ahead of where I currently am.(too impatient my mother always said)
And coming as it did hot on the heels of a price inquiry this morning it seemed quite pertinent.
The enquirer has got himself into the direct marketing field and is finding out that even though he has the system to follow he can’t get up to speed fast enough on all the elements. Hence the need for a copywriter.
I’m all for systems – they work for me. But when you buy into a system – literally in his case then you need to acknowledge that much as you want to you can’t do everything. Time is against you, natural talents are against you and inclination to do the work sometimes is against you.
So every time I think how much I still have to learn and implement about this wonderful world of writing and marketing, then I have to remind myself how far I’ve come – using the always striving to do better principle.
And the questions?
What does it mean for your life and what do you have to do to make it work for you?
