Abundance positivity

We need help keeping positive at the moment.  I’m very focused that what I write for clients and for myself is optimistic and forward looking.  That’s not to say I don’t appreciate or understand the difficulties out there.  However, it’s not what drives me.  We have to be realistic and we have to TAKE ACTION whatever our situation.

Sitting bemoaning our fate doesn’t help and waiting for things to improve won’t work unless we TAKE ACTION.

Half hearted won’t cut it this year.  So anything I can read that keeps me focused and positive helps in my resolve.

This link came from one of my contacts at the weekend.  Don’t know much about Jennifer McLean but I agree with what she says so am passing it on to you.

Stay focused, stay positive and take action.  With your life, your business and with your writing.

Self development for 2009

If you’re into self development for this year then here’s a site I found at Christmas.  It still seems to be offering downloadable audio and e-books – for free.  So take a look.

How to become a genius – advice from Malcolm Gladwell

Interesting article from Malcom Gladwell in Saturday’s Guardian weekend magazine.

All about what makes a genius.  He talks about the Beatles, Bill Gates and Bill Joy and discusses what went into their creating something completely different from what had been before.

One of his conclusion echoes something that one of my writing mentors talked about.  That it takes approx 10,000 hours to become first class at something.

Gladwell talks about the combination of circumstances and hard work that goes into excellence.  Such as the Beatles having to perform for hours in Hamburg strip clubs.  And certainly it’s something that I’ve found for myself with writing.

The more you write, the better you get and the faster you can write.

Gladwell has a new book out called, Outliers, the story of success.Published on 27 November by Allen Lane.

I have an audio programme that I’ve used over several years, called the Einstein Factor by Dr Win Wenger.  Very interesting on visualisation, how to improve performance and all sorts of things.  I’ve found it very useful.  It was a Nightingale Conant programme, but I’m not sure if it’s still available.

How to influence your readers

Ethically of course.

Thousands of words have been written about influence and how to use it.  I think I’ve mentioned the book by Robert Cialdini which is a standard text now for many people.

I’m receiving a newsletter from Kevin Hogan who has an interesting website on which he talks about many strands in influence.  If you want to learn more about sales persuasion, understanding what motivates us and many other things then his site could be a place for you to start.

Nottingham Development Enterprise

On Course Innovation Leadership Programme

On Thursday last week I attended a presentation at Ruddington Grange about serial entrepreneurs.  The speakers were Derek Mapp founder of Tom Cobleigh inns group and Bob Pynegar, both entrepreneurs who have over years dipped in and out of forming companies, steering them to success and selling them.

They were interviewed by Rob Pittam whose easy style and in depth questions opened up interesting lines of dicussion about the qualities needed for entrepreneurs.

Given that we’re in challenging economic times at present, it’s very reassuring to know it’s mindset to look for the opportunities rather than the necessity of having millions behind you that counts.

It was a new group to me and it was good to meet some different people.

Their next meeting is on 13th November at Nottingham Playhouse.  For more information about it visit

Nottingham Choral Trust – Bookwise charity shop

Found a new bookshop in Beeston on Saturday.  I’d seen it from the bus earlier in the week and decided to investigate.

I thought that anyone with the courage to start a bookshop, should be supported as much as possible.

When I went in, I discovered it was set up to raise money for Nottingham Choral Trust and their music education programme.

Their other shop is in Southwell and they’ve now opened one to appeal to the people this side of the city.

Hope it goes well for them.  They do great work musically – led by Angela Kay.

Internet marketing – traffic secrets

I woke up this morning thinking – oh great – my day off!

I’m off to Lichfield this morning to go to a couple of the Festival concert.  Then an awful thought struck me – I haven’t written my blog entry.  Part of me thought well what’s another day, the other part of me thought, no get it done because you need to stay regular with your posting.

So I’ve shot to the computer and checked my e-mails to find something of interest that’s happening.

6 e-mails all about the same event.  The latest product launch from John Reese.  I’m not an affiliate so haven’t any financial incentive to letting you know.  But he’s the guy who did the first million dollar day on the net a few years ago.  So if you’re interested head over to www.trafficsecrets.com to find out what’s going on.

By the way the festival is on for another week after this so if you’re interested google Lichfield festival and see what’s available.

Emotional intelligence coaching

Words For You helps a client meet a publisher deadline

I had great news from one of my clients today.

Last month I helped Lisa Spencer-Arnell and her colleagues from EICT Ltd, do the final edit on their book Emotional Intelligence Coaching (to be published later this year by Kogan Page).

Today I heard from Lisa that the publisher accepted their manuscript without asking for any further changes. Almost unheard of for a first book.

If you’re looking for interesting developments in the world of emotional intelligence and coaching then look out for EICT’s book. For more information visit www.ei-coachtraining.com

Well done to Lisa and her colleagues.
