Last Friday I went to a presentation given by Business Link – now called East Midlands Business.
Described by one of the speakers as the first stop for businesses in their search for help East Midlands Business co-ordinates the money given to it by EMDA and central government across the region.
There are some interesting developments and if you have a business problem – it’s always worth an enquiry.

I think one of the biggest problems for many small business owners is feeling isolated. Being part of a network can help solve that. I’m going to investigate what’s possible for one of my clients who isn’t in business but running her own business might in the long term help her out of her particular difficulties.

I totally agree with the sentiments about isolation. I have spent the last 31 years in the corporate world, working both for the public and private sectors. Having launched my own business last month, I am already feeling slightly isolated and I miss the dynamics of being part of a team and the company ethos. It is early days for me yet, and I am travelling along the ‘change curve’ steadily, learning as I go. I totally agree with the idea of having a network of trusted colleagues to support, guide, etc. If anyone would be interested in becoming part of a nurturing, learning and growing network, do get in touch at the e-mail address above, or via my website: http://www.bluehorizonassociates.co.uk.
Hi Carole
Glad to let people know about your offer. Coming out of a big company culture can be a scary, if exciting experience.
Had an interesting follow up comment about this item after I sent out my latest newsletter this week.
Malcolm Gent from About My Space in Beeston talked to me about how he was finding it also having worked for a large corporate. If anybody else has the same thoughts in the Derby/Nottingham border area then let me know. We may be able to organise an informal session to chat about the challenges of running your own business.
(Malcom’s business is helping local businesses in Beeston and Stapleford area to promote themselves on the web.
