What’s listening to music got to do with becoming an effective copywriter?

In my last post I talked about using music to create an effective mindset.

But there is another link to music – well two really.

Last night I went to a concert with the Kirk Lightsey Trio. If any of you are into jazz he’s definitely to be investigated. Aged 70 and swinging like a twenty year old!

Two things struck me to learn from the experience.

One – the audience was aged between teens and eighty year olds. Common link – the music. So if we’re promoting any service or product that’s what we have to find. The common link that unites the target audience.

Not their age, or their political persuasion, or their income.

Two – there is a quality to good writing that is difficult to define and even more difficult to achieve.

It’s rhythm.  When the writing flows you don’t even notice it. When it doesn’t it can feel uncomfortable and jerky.

Professional writers work hard to achieve it. As one leading copywriter, Ted Nicholas says, ‘If my text reads easy, it’s been written with hard work.’

Stay tuneful and rhythmic.

Regards,

Eileen

I laughed when ‘they’ told me that listening to Mozart would help me study – but I have to admit it does seem to work. However I do tend to wonder whether it may also be an age thing now that I am no longer in my teens!
