I know I should exercise. I think about exercising every day. But I don’t exercise every day.
It should be a priority for my health and fitness. And it is… in my head.
The problem is that the priority in my head doesn’t always translate to a priority on my list or a priority that gets done.
Which means that other things are taking precedence. For me usually writing, reading and eating.
Maybe that’s how you are about writing. You want to write. You know you have this book inside you just screaming to get out. And yet…
“Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% persperation. I never did anything worth doing by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident. They came by work.” Thomas Edison.
Well he probably didn’t have the distractions that we have today did he? There was no televison, or the internet or… And he probably had people to shop and cook for him and…
Let’s be honest. If we really want to do something we always find the time for it. Writing is no different.
But… if we don’t make the time then our writing will be no further up our priority list than it’s ever been. Which would be a shame for that book you have sitting inside you.
What could it do in the world for you and other if you let it out?
Arnold Bennett used to write 1000 words a day. Oscar Wilde used to put a comma in his text in the morning then in the afternoon take it out again.
I often set a timer for 33.33 minutes and see how many words I can write in that time. They might be rubbish words that I delete later. It doesn’t matter. The important thing is that I do it… even when I don’t feel like it.
If you can’t manage 33.33, try 15.15 minutes and see how many you do. You might surprise yourself.
