I’m sure you’ve seen cats with thick tails when they’re under threat. Well we had an outbreak…
of fat tails on Friday evening. I was walking towards the kitchen when I heard the loudest screech from Portia and both cats dashed out. Portia paused by the patio steps and Humphrey was storming towards the border.
As he disappeared round the side of the fence I followed him, through the back gate not down the border though, in time to see him pursuing a tabby cat towards the front gate. To start with I thought it was next door’s tabby but it had white feet which was different.
By the time I caught up with them the tabby had taken refuge under the car with Humphrey growling and prowling at the front of it. I knelt down on the gravel, always a painful act, to see the tabby settling down as if at home! Eventually I coaxed it out while fending off Humphrey at the same time.
Such a handsome little cat with its white boots and its suave appearance. Only young though and at that stage still I think where they have lots of bravado and not much sense.
In the end I left them to it but we didn’t hear any other fighting so I assume that somehow they came to a compromise.
No idea where the cat belongs – I haven’t seen it anywhere up and down the road.
Have to wait and see if he visits again.
