Humphrey – update

We all know about cats loving the smell of the plant nepeta.  But till this week I had no idea that cats could also be addicted to…

a plant called lemon balm.  In our garden this grows like a weed.  Which is strange because the essential oil from this plant is one of the most expensive in the world for the true oil – called Melissa.

Both our cats this week have taken to rubbing themselves, like things possessed against the flower of this plant.  Since at the time it was sitting in a plant pot, having seeded itself there, it caused some difficulty for our older cat since she had to stretch up, balanced on her back paws to get at the flower.

She rubbed so hard that she broke off the flower which dropped into a lower pot.

Ever the opportunist, Humphrey then came up and stole it from her, rolling it round in his paws.

They’ve had several goes at it, including this morning.

Obviously given them a quick fix!
