Last night we were just about to sit down to our meal when Humphrey appeared on the window ledge. He sits there or
on the dustbin to tell us he wants in. Anyway we hadn’t seen him often during the day with only the occasional forays in for grub.
He came in, stuffed his face then went into the living room. I heard him scrabbling so went to look at what he was up to.
We have a small rug on the floor and he’d decided to fight the rug which was rucked up all round him. Mad cat I thought and went back into the dining room. Next I see is this cat hurtling through the dining room at speed coming to a halt at the far end of the kitchen.
Maybe I should explain that we live in a terrace house with rooms opening out of each other. So from the door into the living room to the back wall of the kitchen he can get up quite a turn of speed.
For about five minutes we had a repeat performance of this several times. Now we expect something like this when it’s windy and it’s usually outside that he races round the garden, doing his best to trip you up as he passes.
Never seen him do it quite so madly inside before. Again because we didn’t know him as a kitten we don’t know what his experience was of play. For a long time he was very disdainful if you threw him things or played with a string. It almost seemed like he didn’t know about that kind of playing.
Now it seems that the older he gets, the dafter he gets. A bit like us really.
Till next week.
